Como había anunciado aquí, hice un cursillo de teñido solar el 10 de junio. Saqué dos madejas de lana que había dejado en tarros con Palo Campeche y una madeja con polvo de la raíz de Rubia tinctorum. En los tarros quedaba bastante tinte y por eso aproveché los baños para teñir otras madejas. Lo hice dos veces más, es decir, que ahora tengo tres diferentes madejas que he teñido en el mismo tarro, una tras otra. En el primer baño con Palo Campeche hice una prueba con los mordientes: una madeja traté con alumbre (10% en agua templada durante 12 horas) y la otra con sulfato de hierro. ¡La madeja premordentada con sulfato de hierro casi quedó negra! Quería azul…. Bueno, con los demás baños lo conseguí, creo… En la foto se ven las madejas del primer baño a la izquierda: primero con sulfato de hierro, luego alumbre (ambos con palo campeche) y al lado con Rubia tinctorum. Más a la derecha se ven las madejas de los segundos y terceros baños. La segunda madeja a la dereche cuyos hilos son algo más finos, es otra lana: es lana de la raza Navarra y el mordiente es ruibarbo (la puse en el último baño para aprovechar de todo el tinte).
As I had announced here, I gave a little workshop about solar dyeing June 10th. During that workshop I took two skeins out of the solar dye-jars: two were dyed with logwood and one with common madder. There was quite a lot of dyestuff left in the jars, so I decided to make good use of it and so I put some more skeins into them. So in the end I got three different shades of colours from those dye baths. In the first dye bath with logwood I tried out two different mordants: one with the usual alum and the other with iron (II) sulfate. The skein mordanted with iron sulfate and dyed with logwood came out almost totally black! But I really wanted blue… Well, with the other baths I kind of got my blues, I think. In the photo you see the skeins from the first vat on the left, in the middle the second vat skeins and on the right the third. The greyish skein is another breeds’ wool: Navarra. And it is premordanted with rhubarb leaves (I put that skein into the last jar to really get all the colour from the logwood chips…).
