Desde hace ya meses, terminé la chaqueta con la lana finlandesa que compré durante el viaje de estudios de EWA en 2023. Había comprado tres madejas de color gris, dos rojos, una rosa y otra verde. En casa me entraban las dudas si esta lana fuera suficiente para una chaqueta. Por si acaso, compré dos madejas más de una mezcla de lanas de los vellones que entraban en la competición de vellones organizada por EWA. Toda la lana fue hilada por mis amigos Satu y Sami quienes son los trabajadores principales de la hilatura Isokommun kehräämö. Ahí procesan lana de razas ovinas de Finlandia: Finnsheep y Kainuu Grey.
Me encanta como lo hacen: parece que no hay que lavar la lana demasiada porque no tiene tanta lanolina. Pero las máquinas de su fábrica pueden procesar la lana así: el resultado es una lana muy rica y suave que te deja las manos suaves después de tejer. Tambíen utilizan tintes ecológicos que no contaminan el medio ambiente.
La chaqueta tejí con agujas circulares, todo en redondo de abajo hacia arriba, uniendo las dos mangas con el cuerpo y por primera vez con un ‘steek’. Esto es una parte de algunos puntos que se corta con una tijera para abrir la chaqueta. Los dibujos hice según me apetecía: algunos zigzag, un dibujo que me gustó de algunos calcetines (los Aarnivalkeat de Tiina Kuu) y otros del libro de Elizabeth Zimmermann: The Opinionated Knitter.
El resultado me gusta mucho, y me sobraba bastante lana, claro. De esta lana hice otra falda de invierno para mi cuñada en Suecia, añadiendo alguna lana hilada por mí.

For months now, I finished the jacket with the Finnish wool I bought during the EWA study tour in 2023. I had bought three skeins of gray, two red, one pink and one green. At home I was wondering if this wool would be enough for a jacket. Just in case, I bought two more skeins of a blend of wools from the fleeces entered in the fleece competition organized by EWA. All the wool was spun by my friends Satu and Sami who are the main workers at Isokommun kehräämö spinning mill. There they process wool from Finnish sheep breeds: Finnsheep and Kainuu Grey.
I love how they do it: it looks like you don’t have to wash the wool too much because it doesn’t have as much lanolin in it. But the machines in their factory can process the wool like this: the result is a very rich and soft wool that leaves your hands soft after knitting. They also use ecological dyes that do not pollute the environment.
I knit the jacket with circular needles, all in the round from the bottom up, joining the two sleeves with the body and for the first time with a ‘steek’. This is a part of some stitches that is cut with a pair of scissors to open the jacket. I decided on the pattern while knitting: some zigzags, a pattern I liked of some socks (Tiina Kuu’s Aarnivalkeat) and others from Elizabeth Zimmermann’s book: The Opinionated Knitter.
I like the result very much, and I had a lot of yarn left over, of course. From this wool I made another winter skirt for my sister-in-law in Sweden, adding some wool spun by me.
