La falda ‘DeeDee Iknitarod 2018 Lanesplitter Skirt‘ es mi primer proyecto 100% local: La lana de esa falda es una mezcla de lana Latxa con lana Navarra (Churra, como los pastores de aquí la llaman), lavada y procesada (hilada) a mano, teñida con tintes naturales (Phytolacca spec. y Sambucus ebulus) y tejida durante la competición de trineo tirado por perros ‘Iditarod‘ en Alaska estos días. El nombre de esa falda quiere honrar a DeeDee Jonrowe, una mujer de 64 años que ha participado en la dura competición del Iditarod 36 veces. Este año fue su última participación pero ella tuvo que retirarse pasados unos días. Sin embargo, ella es un ejemplo para todas las mujeres en un mundo dominado por hombres. DeeDee siempre llevaba ropa de color rosa fucsia, incluso sus perros llevaban ‘patucos’ de ese color. Mientras los deportistas intentan llegar primeros a Nome, los y las tejedores y tejedoras de Ravelry tejen y hacen ganchillo para terminar sus proyectos. Así terminé mi falda, el chal ‘Toulousiane’ de Ardilanak y el hilado de 100 gramos de lana merina. La falda es un diseño de Tina Whitmore y me encanta (no es difícil de hacer).
The skirt ‘DeeDee Iknitarod 2018 Lanesplitter Skirt‘ is my first totally 100% local project: I used yarn made from local breeds (Latxa and Navarra), washed and processed by myself, then dyed the wool with natural dyes (Phytolacca spec. and Sambucus ebulus) and knitted during this year’s ‘Iditarod‘ in Alaska. The skirt’s name is a homage for DeeDee Jonrowe who has participated in the sled dog race 36 times. This year was supposed to be her last year but unfortunately, she had to scratch just after a few days. Nevertheless, she is an outstanding example for all women in a world dominated by men, in my opinion. She always wore pink clothes and even her dogs had pink bootees. While the mushers raced towards Nome, a group of knitters and crocheters in Ravelry ‘raced’ along knitting and crocheting their projects, chatting in the ‘Iknitarod’ group about the race and their projects. It was fun! Thus I finished this skirt, as well as Ardilanak‘s shawl ‘Toulousiane’ and I also spun 100 g of merino wool. The skirt is a design by Tina Whitmore and I really enjoyed knitting it (it’s not difficult at all).
