La Phytolacca americana está considerada como una planta invasora y aquí en el País Vasco es bastante común: la he visto en la zona de Oiartzun al lado del bidegorri hacia Arditurri y en el monte Ulía. Pero a mí me gusta esta planta mucho porque me da un tinte natural de un color que normalmente no se puede encontrar fácilmente.
Pokeweed is considered to be an invasive plant here in the Basque Country and it is quite common: I have seen quite a lot of plants next to the bike path from Oiartzun to Arditurri and also in the Ulía hill. But I really like this plant because it gives me such a rich reddish pink to purple natural colour that is normally difficult to find in nature.
Para ahorrar energía, suelo teñir con el método del teñido solar: extraigo el tinte de las bayas (tiro las semillas a la basura para que no se puedan reproducir más) y añado la lana pre-mordentada al tarro de cristal. Pongo todo cerca a la ventana o en el balcón al sol durante 3-6 (?) semanas, hasta que el color me guste.
To save energy, I usually dye using the solar dying method: I extract the dye from the berries (I throw away the seeds to avoid that they spread more) and add the mordanted wool fibres to the jar. I put it next to a window or on the balcony into the sun for about 3-6 (?) weeks until I like the colour of the fibre.
