Por fin sembramos lino de invierno en el caserío de mi amiga Arantza el viernes pasado: Nos había llegado la semilla del lino oleico desde Francia ya hace dos, tres semanas pero justamente entonces no paró de llover… La semana pasada fue lo suficiente seca para sembrar las semillas: teníamos aproximadamente 600 gramos y las repartimos en el campo en aproximadamente 50 metros cuadrados.
Pero lo que nos importa más, fue sembrar el lino de fibra de invierno pero éste no nos ha llegado todavía. Sin embargo, tuvimos las semillas del lino de este año y decidimos sembrar éstas: como estaban todavía en sus cápsulas, pisamos las cápsulas para sacar las semillas de ellas. (Ver foto de la entrada.) Las semillas del lino de fibra sembramos según las instrucciones de la suiza Ruth Läng en filas: hicimos cuatro filas a cerca 12-15cm de distancia entre ellas y una pasillo, luego otras 4 filas y otro pasillo etc. En total sembramos 12 filas y luego 5 metros cuadrados sin filas, con las semillas repartidas con las manos. A ver, si las plantas van a crecer algún día porque no ha llovido desde entonces y no parece que lo va a hacer pronto….
Finally, we sowed the winter oil flax on my friend Arantza’s farm last Friday: We got the seed two or three weeks before from Jean-Marc in France but just then it didn’t stop raining for two weeks! Last week was sufficiently dry to sow the seeds: we had about 600 grams and we spread them out on about 50 square metres.
But what we really wanted to sow was the winter line-flax, but unfortunately these seeds haven’t arrived from France yet. However, we still had the seeds from this year’s line-flax y we decided to sow those: since they still were in their capsules we had to step on them so separate the seeds from the capsules. (See photo at the top.) We sowed the seeds according to the instructions in Ruth Läng’s booklet. She suggests to sow the flax in rows, so we made four rows with about 12-15 cm between them and a small path between each four rows. After 12 rows we decided to try out sowing by spreading the seeds out by hand: this area is about 5 square metres big. Let’s see if the plants will grow some day because it hasn’t rained since and won’t do so for at least 4 more days….
