La verdad es, que las fechas óptimas de sembrar el lino textil de invierno son entre el 15 y el 30 de septiembre, normalmente. Pero si el tiempo y el climo lo permite, también se puede sembrar algo más tarde. Y como este otoño ha sido muy caloroso hasta ahora, creo que todavía puede crecer bien el lino. El martes pasado, 9 de octubre, estuve en la huerta de la KE de Intxaurrondo:
Primero tuve que quitar las cápsulas con las semillas de los tallos. Luego limpié el bancal a la izquierda del bancal de este año (recuerda, que no se puede sembrar en el mismo sitio durante 6-7 años) de las hierbas. Preparé ocho filas para las semillas: sembré linaza limpia en las filas a la derecha y las cápsulas en las filas a la izquierda. Estas cápsulas quité de un lino que ya estaba enriado. Probablemente, no todas las semillas son buenas o pueden brotar. Así que este bancal es un experimento (otra vez). Los dos tipos de linaza son de una variedad de lino de primavera, así que tampoco es la linaza totalmente adecuada para sembrar ahora, pero bueno, Ya veremos, qué sale.

Truth is, that the best time to sow the winter flax is usually between the 15th and 30th September. But since this fall is really warm and the climate here in the Basque Country so close to the ocean is rather mild, I think it’s still okay to sow now in October. I hope that the flax will grow soon, if it gets some rain, that is. So, last Tuesday, 9th October, I was in the garden of the Culture Centre of Intxaurrondo:
First, I had to separate the capsules from the flax stalks. Then I had to dig up the weeds and break up the soil a little bit. I chose the bed to the left of this year’s flax bed (remember, that you cannot grow flax in the same spot for about 6-7 years). I prepared eight lines for the seeds: into the four lines to the right I sowed clean lin seeds and into the lines on the left I sowed directly the capsules. I have to add that these capsules come from flax that was already retted, so maybe no all of the seeds are still good and will germinate. This flax bed is another experiment. Also, the seeds are actually not winter flax seeds but from this year’s summer flax, so we will see, if the seeds germinate or not.
