Tengo un amiga que me dio una bolsita con pelo de su gato para hilar…. Lo tenía más de un año y no me atreví empezar el proceso. Pero al final empecé hace un mes con la preparación que fue bastante laborosa: Los pelos estaban casi en una bola afieltrada… Tuve que estirar y separar los pelos a mano para poder cardarlos con las cardas de mano. Luego hilé los ‘rolags’ con dos de mis husos; no pude hilar esa fibra tan fina con mi rueca Louët S10. Hice un hilo con dos cabos y con unas agujas de 3,5mm hice una cinta para poner en la frente (15g) y dos mitones (cada uno aprox. 15 g). Al final solo eran 47 g. Olvidé medir los metros, lo siento. Resumiendo puedo decir que me gusta mucho como ha quedado la lana y los productos finales. ¡Son suavísimos! Parece mohair, la verdad.
A friend of mine gave me little bag with her cat’s hair in it, more than a year ago. I didn’t dare to start processing it but in the end I started working on it about a month ago. The first step was the hardest: I had to pull the fibres apart by hand and some of them were really felted. (The last bit I just left as it is, I was fed up with tearing so hard at the felted piece.) I put these hairs on my hand cards and made about 20 or so rolags. I had to spin the fibres on two of my hand spindles because I couldn’t manage to adjust my Louët S10 wheel to do the job. Last, I plied the two singles to a two-ply yarn. (I haven’t measured the length of the yarn, sorry.) I had about 47 g and started to knit a headband right away. It weighs about 15 g so I decided to knit two fingerless mittens. To summarize, I have to point out the softness of the yarn and the fabrics: It’s super soft! I would compare it to Mohair. I was really surprised.
