Gracias a Lucía Sánchez, una artista textil que vive en el País Vasco, aprendí como se teje con un bastidor cuadrado, usando un hilo sin cortarlo. Es un método que fue nuevo para mí pero que es bastante rápido. La desventaja es que sólo se puede hacer un tejido o cuadrado o rectangular o redondo. Como se usa un bastidor redondo todavía no sé. Pero me hice un bastidor cuadrado de un marco que encontré algún día al lado de un contenedor y puse clavos alrededor en la madera:
Luego empecé con la lana gorda que había hilado de un napa de Iletegia. Hice dos tejidos pero como son de lana Latxa/Manex no son tejidos para ponerlos cerca de la piel… No estoy segura todavía si debería hacer fieltro de estos trozos poniendolos en la lavadora.
Thanks to Lucía Sánchez, a wonderful textile artist living in the Basque Country, I learned about weaving on a square frame, with which it is possible to weave with an uncut yarn! And you weave from two sides at a time towards the middle so it is quite fast as well. The only disadvantage is that you can only do that technique with a square, rectangular or round frame. With a rectangular frame you need one side twice as long as the other, I think. (Lucía gave me one of those frames but I haven’t tried that one yet.) Also, I don’t know how to use the round one. But anyway, I made myself a square frame from some wood left beside a rubbish container. I just needed some nails and a hammer to finish it off.
After that I started weaving with the very thick handspun Latxa/Manex yarn which I had spun from the batt from Iletegia in Sare. I made two of these squares but as they are made of Latxa wool, it’s not suitable for next-to-skin wear. So now I am thinking of throwing them into the washing machine to felt: Then they might become suitable for sitting on.
