Solo quiero informar a la gente interesada que este domingo, 13 de octubre 2019, tiene lugar el Día del Pastor en Eulate, Navarra. Se puede degustar y comprar los quesos exquisitos de la zona, ver algunos animales y también una demostración de esquileo. Y por eso escribo aquí: Estará un grupo de mujeres con sus ruecas para hilar la lana recien esquilada y después otras mujeres (por el momento solo una….) harán punto con esa lana. Sí, será sucia y con grasa etc. ¡Pero se puede lavar después! El producto final puede ser una bolsa o un gorro. Todavía no sabemos a dónde llegamos y cuántos cuadrados podemos producir. Además, el pastor con las ovejas Navarra-Churra no puede acudir al evento (tienen lana más fina) y tenemos que conformarnos con lana Latxa… Quiere decir que los resultados serán bastante bastas, hehe.
¡Pero todo el mundo es bienvenido a visitarnos ahí! Os pongo el programa:
I just wanted to inform people who are interested in everything sheepy, that this next Sunday, October 13th 2019, there will be a Shepherd’s Day in Eulate, Navarra. As is usual at these events, you can try and buy the excellent cheese made of the local sheeps’ milk and other sheepy products. There will be some animals and also a shearing demonstration. And that’s why I am writing this, really: A group of women will be there to transform the wool directly from the shorn sheep to yarn on their spinning wheels and some other women (so far only one…) will then knit some squares to further on sew them into a bag, hat or something similar. And Yes! The wool and the yarn will be (very) dirty and greasy! But the squares can be washed afterwards! So far, we do not know how many squares we can make or what kind of end product we can produce. In addition, the shepherd who has Navarra-Churra sheep (those with finer wool) cannot attend this year so we have to be contend with the coarser Latxa wool. So the results will be rather coarse, too, hehe!
