Hoy hemos cosechado el lino de verano en los Viveros de Ulía; aprovechamos de la convocatoria para un auzolan que es un encuentro de gente para trabajar juntos. Había que limpiar las zonas al lado de la valla, cortar el césped y los pasillos entre los bancales, por ejemplo. También era el tiempo para el lino: lo arrancamos con las raíces y hicimos manojos con los tallos. Este verano el lino no está tan alto y fuerte como fue el año pasado: creo que es debido a la falta de abono previo a la siembra y también puede ser que había sembrado demasiado juntas las semillas. Así que no han tenido suficiente espacio para desarrollar un tallo fuerte. ¿O es porque he usado la linaza del año pasado y no linaza nueva?
Today we have harvested the summer flax from the bed in the ULB-Park: having taken advantage of the auzolan (a kind of communal work). Some parts of the park had to be cleaned (next to the fence), the grass had to be mowed, etc. And it was also time for the flax to be harvested: we pulled the stalks close to the roots so that we can get the most out of it. This year the flax has not grown as tall and strong as last year: I think it is because I didn’t fertilize the soil before sowing and maybe because I sewed the seeds too close to each other. That way they did not have enough space to develop properly. Or was it because I used the seeds from last year’s crop and not new ones?
Probablemente tuve otro fallo: puse el soporte para las plantas demasiado tarde, es decir, que el viento ya había doblado algunas plantas. En la siguiente foto se puede ver que algunos tallos están rotos o por lo menos doblados:
I probably made another mistake: I put the sticks for support up too late, the wind had already bent some of the stalks. You can see it easily in the photo above.
Después colocamos los manojos en el invernadero para que se sequen los tallos bien.
Afterwards we hung the bundles into the greenhouse so the flax can dry well.
En dos semanas tenemos previsto el desgranado del lino y el puesto en marcha del enriado. A continuación…
