Ya hace una semana tuve lugar el festival de ovejas más grande en Suecia: Faºrfest i Kil. Se celebraba del 28 de febrero al 1 de marzo este año. Como todos los años los expositores ocupaban la planta baja de un colegio entero y había mucha variedad: puestos con lanas comerciales, teñidas y de marcas conocidas, otras lanas de una raza de oveja que solo vive en una zona en Suecia, un puesto de la asociación de esquiladores de Suecia, puestos con pieles de corderos y ovejas, otros puestos con agujas y botones, etc.
No solo habían expositores del sector, sino también ofrecieron diferentes talleres de punto, hilado, teñido, entre otros. Además, habían charlas sobre razas de ovejas, técnicas de algunas manualidades (supongo; la verdad es que no podía entender mucho, casi toda la información fue en Sueco, claro. Sin embargo, la gente me ayudó mucho y explicaba lo que podía.)
Me hubiéra gustado mucho escuchar más charlas pero sin entender el idioma no veía mucho sentido. Pero acudí a una charla sobre la oveja «Walliser Schwarznasenschaf» y saqué algunas fotos de la pantalla. Luego la conferenciante me dio algunos rizos de esas ovejas. Escribiré sobre algunas razas de Suecia más adelante.
Quiero destacar una iniciativa de una mujer que ganó incluso un premio por ella: la fundación de la Agencia de la lana, Ullförmedlingen, por Fia Söderberg. Ella ha creado una plataforma moderna, donde un mercado de lana permite un proceso eficiente de compra / venta. El grupo de Facebook facilita y fomenta el intercambio de información , discusión e inspiración. Con gran conocimiento y un enfoque decidido, Fia Söderberg ha contribuido a aumentar el desarrollo y la disponibilidad de la lana adecuada para el uso correcto.
Creo que necesitamos algo parecido aquí en España también… Como la página web de My local Wool in EE.UU., por ejemplo.

About a week ago I was in Sweden to the biggest Sheep Festival they have there: To Faºrfest i Kil. Kil is a small town a few kilometres north of Karlstad. It took place from February 28th to March 1st this year. The exhibitors occupied all the ground floor of a school, so there was a lot of diversity: stalls with commercial yarns and popular brands, other stalls with hand dyed yarns, yarns of sheep breeds that only live in Sweden, beautiful hides of different Swedish sheep breeds like Gotland and Rya-sheep, other stalls with buttons and knitting needles, etc. The Sheep Shearers Society also had a stand with lots of different wools the visitors were allowed to touch.
Beside the stalls, the festival had organized a lot of talks and workshops about different subjects: for example one talk was about the «Valais Blacknose» Sheep. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand much because it was in Swedish but I took lots of photos from the screen. The lambs (and also the adult sheep) just look adorable (see photos above). I asked the lecturer a few questions afterwards and she gave me some more locks of these sheep. I hope to write more about some Swedish sheep breeds in this blog later. Let’s see…
I want to highlight an initiative of a woman who won an award: the foundation of the Wool Agency, Ullförmedlingen, by Fia Söderberg. She has created a modern platform, where a wool market allows an efficient buying / selling process. The Facebook group facilitates and encourages the exchange of information, discussion and inspiration. With great knowledge and a determined approach, Fia Söderberg has contributed to increasing the development and availability of the right wool for the correct use.
I think we need something similar here in Spain as well. Like the website My Local Wool in the US….
